Photogrammetry medley from Eight VFX

All these 4 projects include photogrammetry done with Enwaii software. But the reasons motivating the use of photogrammetry are not always the same.

The VFX in these commercials were created by the studio Eight VFX.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

Enwaii helped to reconstruct the set in order to generate accurate shadows as well as occlusions, useful for a proper computation of global illumination. The 3D set helped also for the minions animation because of the interactions between the minions and their environment.

Pretty everything in the set was modeled this way, the buildings first but also the bus carrying the minions in Universal Studios, the fountain and the train during the ride.

Flexibility was required, because at the start of the project, nobody was 100% sure where all the minions would run and what they would do exactly. So it was safer to take a 3D approach.

This is barely surprising : who would dare to control the minions ?

Xbox Sunset Overdrive

The main use of photogrammetry in the Xbox Sunset Overdrive commercial was the reconstruction of the street in order to ... destroy it with an explosion. The 3D set also helped for tracking, fluid collision and relighting.

Capital One Venture Card Seats

In this commercial, the airplaine seats are built by image based modeling and texturing. Enwaii was also used for the global layout of the seats.

Meet the Hopsons

Photogrammetry was used for the exterior shots showing the house. Because the inflatable house is a 3D model, the surrounding houses were built in CG in order to generate occlusion and shadow to light the inflatable house accurately.

Enwaii was also used for the shot were the lawnmover breaks the house. The lawnmover was rebuilt in 3D in order to safely add the rotating blade and to add dust around the machine.
